The paperwork came through. Steven and I are now officially Harknesses. Steven is thrilled, of course. We had to re-label every single school book, pencil, piece of clothing, and basically anything that has his name on it had Carter removed and Harkness added. He even mentioned business cards, but when I asked him who he would give them to, he really had no answer.

It's odd, writing Alice Harkness now. I realised while labelling all of Steven's things that I'm going to have to change my name on everything, from bank accounts, to the electricity bill etc. Actually I'll have to add John to all of those things anyway. I'm sure I'm going to forget things, but as mail arrives, I'll just gradually change it all.

And I just realised I'm going to have to do it all again in August...

That's brilliant news! I bet Steven was really enjoying himself during all that re-labelling, specially since he'd been refusing to go by Carter at school for a while now.

What do you say the 5 of us get together for dinner to celebrate?

So the wedding is officially in August now?

He really did. I just never realised how much stuff I label for him. Something to look forward to with Jake :)

That sounds like a brilliant idea. I know Steven is desperate to tell you in person, so act surprised when you see him next.

The wedding is still July 29, but by the time we get back from our honeymoon it will be August. I won't have a chance to do anything before that.

Just out of curiousity, why to you even bother labeling everything? I can understand things like his rucksack and notebooks.

I will!

Okay, that makes sense. You didn't have a set date before though, so now at least I know it's the 29th.

It is mainly school things, but I also label his uniform because otherwise we'd end up with Dylan's or someone else's things or they'd end up with a pile of jumpers at school and no idea of who they belong to. I do wonder why I bother when he keeps losing things though.

Oh, sorry. I thought I'd mentioned the date when we were talking about that camp the other day. Steven will go to the camp on the 30th.

Actually, that does make sense for the uniforms. At least I won't have to worry about that part for a couple of years.

Wedding on the 29th, camp on the 30th. Got it.

Make sure you keep those dates written down. We'll be driving Steven to the camp on the Sunday, but we can drop by and see you before we go if you'd like to see him before he goes.

Oh and while I'm thinking of it, would it be okay if I put you down as the emergency contact for Steven while he's at the camp?

I just realised that if we're out of the country and they need to contact us because he's hurt or something, that while we would of course leave straight away to come home, it will probably take too long and you'll be closer. Most likely he'll be fine and they won't call, but just in case, I would feel better knowing that he had someone nearby who can be with him if he needs someone while we're travelling home.

Of course!

You know I wouldn't mind at all, kiddo. Besides... it's football camp, so you never know what might happen. And like you said, I'm a lot closer than you would be at the time.

Thank you. And yeah, that's what I was thinking. I'm hoping it's unlikely, but Steven can be impulsive and reckless, especially when he's showing off, so who knows.

You're welcome. Maybe with Dylan there, he'll tone down the showing off a little?

Are you kidding? Dylan eggs him on!

Oh god. It's 3 months away and already I'm worrying about it. Maybe we shouldn't go too far away, just in case.

Hahahaha!

Sweetheart, relax. He's going to be fine. And if anything does happen, you know I'll take good care of him and call you right away.

Oh yes, it's all fun and games until someone ends up in the A&E. lol

I know. And I know it will do him good to have this independence too. That doesn't stop me worrying though. I don't think anything ever will, no matter how old he gets.

And then it's a completely different kind of fun.

Believe me, I know the feeling. You never stop worrying about your kids, no matter how grown up they get.

I don't suppose telling you I can take care of myself helps? If I imagine Steven saying that to me, it actually makes me want to whack him on the back of the head, so it probably doesn't help. lol.

Nope, because I'd have the same reaction to you that you'd have to Steven. Granted though, I wouldn't want to whack you upside the head. But you know what I mean. :)

I'm actually starting to wonder if it's worth bothering with a lot of things, since I'll just be doing it all over again in 3 months.

Well, for Steven it might be easier to do it for, but for yourself .... since you're going to be changing your name, it'd just be easier to wait.

[info]aliceincardiff

Yeah, exactly. I was just making a list for the both of us and realised that mine is so long that to do it twice just seems a bit of a waste of time that I'd rather spend with Steven. His list is a lot shorter and given that his name isn't changing again, I'll just do it for now.

The list to change your name on things really is hellacious. I don't look forward to it myself.

Yes. No. Okay, maybe a little. We hadn't really talked about it, so I wasn't sure what your plans were. I know some women keep their maiden names for professional reasons.

But I'm thrilled, love.

Most of it I think I'll just wait to change to Hart in a few months time. The electricity company isn't going to know the difference in between.

John? Please tell me when you officially decided to settle in here, you arranged for some proper ID's for yourself? Not forged ones?

If not, let me know... I can take care of it. Legally. You know, make you a "real" person in this century and all. You're going to need it in order to get the marriage license.
